The Awful Taste Of Sour Honey
Greetings and welcome back to Proverbs Pathways – finding your way God’s way. King Solomon in Proverbs 5 deals with the sexual life of a man gone wild – wild enough to commit adultery. He tells the unadulterated truth: “For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a two-edged sword.” (Proverbs 5:3,4)
Solomon then gets personal and passionate, he says, “Now then, my sons, listen to me; do not turn aside from what I say.” You must read Proverbs 5:5-20 to get the best sexual advice a man could receive regarding love, sex and marital happiness – who to avoid and who to embrace. It’s up to you.
May your body, soul and spirit be turned homeward after reading and heeding. Following his reality-check for sexual life, Solomon’s conclusion builds and blesses a man’s life: “For a man’s ways are in full view of the Lord, and He examines all his paths. The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him; the cords of his sin hold him fast. He will die for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.” (Proverbs 5:21-23)
Life is “full of two choices” (I know that sounds funny but it’s true). Your greatest choice? Follow Christ. Your only truly positive choice that works now and forever? Trust God and do good. Solomon demonstrates that life is much simpler and more uncomplicated than we think. He said it’s the choice between the folly of a man and his inevitable fall – or his faith in God and his inevitable freedom and fulfillment. Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that you might have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
There’s a full life ahead. Claim it with the tried and true way to know God – faith, focus and follow through – “trusting and obeying” Him.
