Hello Friends,
Welcome back to the Proverbs Pathway – finding your way God’s way.
Overcoming the personal problem of forgetfulness is essential to making progress in life. Someone said there are three kinds of memory – good, bad and convenient. Solomon, in Proverbs 3:1ff, emphatically says, “Do not forget My teaching but keep my commandments in your heart…” He then gives some real good reasons to remember God and His teachings found throughout Scripture.
Remember – and prolong your life many years! He’s speaking of both quantity and quality of life – more years in your life and more life in your years. Here’s an example: God says we are to give thanks in all circumstances – often in spite of the circumstances. It’s a fact that an attitude of gratitude is a defense against anger, depression, passivity, fear and other specific enemies that work against us. You can’t be prosperous in mind, body, spirit and soul if you forget that “God works all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
Remember – and you will “win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.” (Proverbs 3:4) Relationships always take center stage in life. Want to make your casual as well as permanent relationships bless you and others? Then never forget Proverbs 3:3: “Let love and faithfulness never leave you… write them on the tablet of your heart.” How many people live in double jeopardy – forgetting to love and forgetting to be faithful? Millions! A poor memory can wreck your life. If asked what went wrong in their lives, many would have to honestly say, “I forgot to love, I forgot to be faithful, I let the world and my self-seeking attitude erase them from my heart.” But open your heart to God and you can write a new life story. As the Bible says, “Hope does not disappoint us because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit whom He has given us.” (Romans 5:5)
Remember – and you won’t spend your life traveling dead-end roads to frustration.
Remember – and you won’t get confounded by conflicting and contradictory thoughts fighting against you in your own mind.
Remember – and you won’t be trapped, tricked or talked into evil.
Remember – and you won’t look in the mirror and wonder where your health went.
Remember – and you won’t be constantly disappointed with your finances.
The positive sides of all of the above negatives are found in Proverbs 3:7-10.
No one can remember for you. It’s your mind, make some unforgettable deposits in it that will last a life-time.
Here’s a final promise to never forget: “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is stedfast, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3)
God remembers, do you?
In Christ, Chuck Brannon, Pastor
